Sigma Art Additions

The 105mm F1.4 DG HSM and 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO join the Art lens line-up

In early February Sigma announced the 14-28mm F/2.8 DG HSM lens and now there’s two new lenses to be added to its Art line – the 105mm F1.4 DG HSM and 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO.

The 105mm F1.4 DG HSM lens, which is the longest focal length in the Sigma Art line of f/1.4 lenses is referred to by Sigma as the ‘bokeh master’. It has been designed to create a beautiful bokeh effect and ensure that both the in-focus and out-of-focus areas of images are equally satisfying to the eye. The lens incorporates 17 optical elements in 12 groups and has three FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements and one aspherical lens element. A highly effective dust and splash-proof structure with a special sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, cover connection and additional areas helps the lens stay protected in various weather conditions. It also features a water and oil-repellent coating on the front of the lens. The 105mm F1.4 DG HSM lens will be available in Sigma, Nikon, Canon and Sony E-mount fits, with the Canon mount being compatible with the Canon Lens Aberration Correction function. Pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.

In addition to this Sigma has also announced the 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO lens, which is also yet to have a confirmed launch date and will be available in Sigma, Canon and Sony E-mount fits. The 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO lens features a coreless DC motor to enhance image quality as well as an optimised algorithm to offer smooth autofocus performance. To help minimise aberration the lens has an extending, floating, two group focus mechanism and an optical system that incorporates two FLD, two SLD glass elements and an element that has a high rate of anomalous partial dispersion and a high index of refraction. The Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO lens is compatible with Sigma Tele Converters, as well as the ELECTRONIC FLASH MACRO EM-140 DG, when used with the 65mm Macro Flash Adapter.
