New Insta360 X4 Camera offers 8K 360° video

Posted on Apr 17, 2024

Insta360 has just announced the launch of its latest innovation, the Insta360 X4, a flagship camera that promises to revolutionise 360° video with 8K resolution

Now available to buy, Insta360 is positioning it as a camera for a wide range of content creators, from casual enthusiasts to professional videographers.

Image Quality and Shooting Modes

The headline feature of the Insta360 X4 is that it offers 360° footage at a whopping 8K/30p, which is undoubtedly impressive in such a small package.

In addition, it is also capable of 5.7K at 60fps and 4K at 100fps, which will appeal to fast-moving action sports enthusiasts.

Furthermore, such high resolution means there are some handy features that make it as easy as possible for athletes and explorers to capture a moment without losing their concentration. Handy if you’re hurtling along a cliff edge on a mountain bike.

For example, the camera has a ‘shoot first, point later’ mode, which takes an entire 360° image that creators can crop into later to pick their desired frame.

The X4 also features an Invisible Selfie Stick effect, which automatically removes a selfie stick from the frame. This allows you to get footage from unique perspectives that looks like it was filmed with a drone or additional camera setup.

Additionally, the camera boasts an improved Single-Lens Mode with ultra-wide 4K/60p footage, making it ideal for action shots and first-person perspectives.

Enhanced Performance and Durability

On the inside, the X4’s ease of use is increased by a 5nm AI chip that enables voice and gesture control.

Other smart features include stabilisation, high-resolution time-lapses, and integration with external devices like the Garmin or Apple watches for overlaying performance data directly onto videos.

The camera also includes new AI-driven shooting and editing features, that are said to make the in-camera editing process much quicker and easier. There’s even an auto editing feature that does it all for you.

Thankfully all these extra features are powered by improved battery performance that provides up to 135 minutes of run time.

A camera like this needs to be hard-wearing and the X4 delivers on that front. The X4 is equipped with removable lens guards, a Gorilla Glass touchscreen, and the ability to withstand temperatures as low as -20ºC.  It is also waterproof down to 10m without additional casing.

Availability and Pricing

Priced at £499.99, the Insta360 X4 is available for purchase through the Insta360 Official Store, Amazon, and select retailers worldwide.
