Canon adds new models to its APS-C DSLR and EOS M ranges

Canon is committed to catering for all levels of photographer, and the EOS 90D and the EOS M6 Mark II do just that

Canon recently bolstered its premium Powershot compact range and its EOS R system is in its infancy, so everything is new there. Next year is Olympics year (in Tokyo, no less), so expect something very significant in the full-frame pro market as a result. This leaves only Canon’s APS-C DSLR and its EOS M mirrorless ranges – we’ve seen little activity from both ranges recently… until now, that is!

Cue fanfare and say hello to the EOS 90D and the EOS M6 Mark II, replacing the EOS 80D and EOS M6 respectively.

There have been some external developments and new features, but the big news is found inside. Both cameras sport a new Canon-made, Canon-designed APS-C sensor with an impressive 32.5 megapixels. Additionally, both models are equipped with Canon’s latest generation DIGIC 8 processor.

Both cameras have strong potential for wildlife or sports photographers. The EOS 90D shoots 10fps with autofocus tracking and 11fps in Live View, whereas the EOS M6 Mark II is capable of a 14fps continuous frame rate and impressive 30fps Raw burst, with both modes using autofocus tracking.

In addition to higher image quality, the cameras’ new sensor possesses strong low-light capabilities thanks to a high ISO of 100 to 25,600.

As well as stills shooting, both cameras can shoot 4K video, with Full HD shooting also available up to 120 fps.

The Canon EOS 90D will be available from 12 September with an RSP of EOS 90D £1,209.99/€1,449.99 (body only).

The EOS M6 Mark II will be available from 26 September with RSPs of £869.99/€1,029.99 (body only) or £1,119.99/€1,329.99 (with EF-M 15-45mm IS STM + EVF-DC2 lens).

In addition to the two new cameras, Canon has also released news of new glass. The RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM and RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM lenses expand Canon’s RF lens line-up for the EOS R System and will be available in September.

Both new lenses come with an RSP of £2,329.99/€2,749.99.
