Canon Firmware Updates

Posted on Jan 7, 2022

New firmware is now available to download for Canon EOS R5, R6 (both v1.5) and EOS-1D X Mark III (v1.6) cameras

For the EOS R5 and R6, a major improvement included with the latest firmware update is enhanced subject recognition. Vehicle detection is also now available, a feature inherited from the flagship EOS R3. Another benefit of the new firmware is improved AF tracking of people with better face/eye and body detection, even when the subject is wearing a mask. This update makes the EOS-1D Mark III better suited to capturing winter sports, as it is now able to focus on subjects’ heads even when they’re wearing goggles and helmets.

The update also streamlines workflows for professional photographers, allowing users of EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras to set a custom white balance in Live View. Additional features help to make sure photographers don’t transfer files by mistake when using “Transfer with SET” for FTP transfer, and the voice memo and image rating settings can now be controlled using a single button instead of two separate ones.

Lenses are also supported by the update, which makes the EOS R5 compatible with Canon’s EOS VR SYSTEM and the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L DUAL FISHEYE lens. This makes it easier for content creators to capture footage for virtual reality.
