Explore new worlds with Sony’s 100mm macro

Sony’s FE 100mm F/2.8 Macro GM OSS invites photographers to explore the world up close, capturing delicate textures and hidden details

Sony has announced the Sony FE 100mm F/2.8 Macro GM OSS, the first medium telephoto macro lens in the G Master series. This release is compatible with Alpha E-mount cameras, like the full-frame mirrorless Alpha 1 II.

This lens achieves a maximum magnification of 1.4x, making it easy to capture flowers, small objects and other close-up subjects. With this lens, photographers can reveal subtle textures and features that are difficult to see with the naked eye.

When paired with a teleconverter, the lens offers up to 2.8x magnification. This enables impressive close-up shots while keeping a comfortable working distance. It is ideal for subjects that are hard to approach or for avoiding unwanted reflections.

The lens combines XA and ED elements for sharp, high-resolution images with minimal aberration. It also features fast XD linear motors for up to 1.9x quicker autofocus, plus intuitive focus controls and a dedicated aperture ring for precise handling.

Regarding image quality, the 11-blade circular aperture creates the signature creamy G Master bokeh, while Nano AR Coating II keeps images free from flare, even in tricky lighting. With advanced optical stabilisation for steady handheld shots, it’s built to make every macro detail clear.

The Sony FE 100mm F/2.8 Macro GM OSS will be available in November 2025 for approximately £1,400.
