A major new exhibition at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art explores the city’s character through 80 powerful photographic works

A new exhibition at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) puts photography centre stage in a vivid exploration of the city’s people, places and spirit. Still Glasgow, presented by Glasgow Life, brings together more than 80 works from the 1940s to today, highlighting both iconic and rarely seen images from the city’s rich visual history.

The exhibition features celebrated photographers including Oscar Marzaroli, Linda McCartney, David Eustace and Bert Hardy, alongside community-based projects such as Glendale Women’s Café and Romano Lav. Also on show are moving-image works like Roderick Buchanan’s Gobstopper and portraits of Glasgow’s artists at work, including Joan Eardley and Alasdair Gray.

Curated by Katie Bruce in collaboration with Street Level Photoworks, Still Glasgow coincides with the city’s 850th anniversary and anticipates GoMA’s 30th year in 2026. It’s a powerful reflection on Glasgow’s evolving identity — celebrating its humour, resilience, and creative energy while imagining the city’s future through the lens of its photographers.
