New Samyang ultra-wide prime for Canon RF-S
Samyang has announced the release of the AF 12mm F2 RF-S, the company’s first lens specifically designed for Canon RF-S cameras
As the widest-angle lens available for Canon’s RF-S lineup, this new offering is positioned for photographers working in landscapes, architecture, astrophotography and travel.
Design and features
The lens weighs 213g and measures 57.2mm in length, so it’s certainly portable. It also includes weather sealing to protect against light rain, dust and snow, so it’s good for outdoor use.
When it comes to design, a pleasing matte finish and red ring detail complement Canon RF-S cameras and there is an on-lens AF/MF switch
Optical performance
The AF 12mm F2 RF-S consists of three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical lenses, which Samyang says minimise chromatic aberration, distortion and sagittal coma.
The lens’ wide F2 aperture uses a seven-blade diaphragm, while a minimum focus distance of 0.2 metres ensures versatility in close-up shots.
Autofocus and handling
The lens uses Samyang’s Linear STM motor, which the company says provides smooth, quiet and precise autofocus. Furthermore, its lightweight design is compatible with tripods and gimbals, offering flexibility for a variety of shooting styles.
Availability
The AF 12mm F2 RF-S is available for pre-order now, with deliveries expected to begin in January 2025. For more information, visit the website.
