Update for Sigma 35mm f/1.2

Sharper optics plus reduced size and weight define Sigma’s new 35mm Art lens for mirrorless shooters

Sigma has announced the 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art, the successor to its groundbreaking lens from 2019 which was the world’s first 35mm mirrorless prime with such a fast aperture. Launched for Sony E and L-Mount cameras, the new version refines the formula with sharper optics, faster autofocus and a much lighter build.

The hallmark of the lens remains its maximum aperture, offering exceptional sharpness in the focal plane combined with large, smooth bokeh. Thanks to advanced glass, including SLD elements and four double-sided asphericals, the DG II corrects axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare more effectively than its predecessor. The result is crystal-clear images, even at f/1.2, with beautiful separation between subject and background.

Despite these optical gains, Sigma has cut the size by around 30% in weight and 20% in length. A new floating focus system enables the smaller design while boosting consistency across the focusing range. Focus breathing is also minimized, making the lens more appealing for hybrid shooters.

The autofocus system is driven by a dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) setup, providing quiet, reliable and fast performance for stills and video alike.

As part of Sigma’s pro-level Art line, the lens is built for demanding use, with a dust- and splash-resistant structure, oil- and water-repellent coatings, and a tough yet lightweight mix of aluminium, magnesium alloy and TSC composite. Controls include a lockable and de-clickable aperture ring, an assignable AFL button, and a focus mode switch.

Weighing 755g and supplied with a petal hood, the Sigma 35mm f/1.2  DG II Art will be £1299.
