Why Photo Walks are the new wellbeing boost
New research demonstrates the positive impact of getting out in nature and capturing

Marking the start of Mental Health Awareness Week (12 – 18 May 2025), Europe’s leading photo company, and official partner of the National Trust – CEWE – has unveiled research that demonstrates the positive impact of getting out in nature and capturing photos as part of a Photo Walk.
Key findings include:
- 9 in 10 (91%) of Brits believe that spending time outdoors has a positive impact on their wellbeing
- Nearly half (49%) say photographing the outdoors continues the feel-good feeling, with smartphones facilitating more picture-taking
- Nearly a third (31%) say taking photos helps them manage stress and anxiety
Supporting the findings, CEWE has partnered with University of Oxford tutor, Dr Graham Wilson, to further delve into the wellbeing benefits of a Photo Walk – including how photography can be used as an act of mindfulness, and how your phone and surroundings can be used as an accessible tool for wellbeing.
How to join a Photo Walk
Following the results, CEWE is encouraging people to get outdoors, enjoy the beauty of their surroundings and experience the wellbeing benefits of a Photo Walk at a National Trust location near them.
