Winner of inaugural CEWE Student Photography Award revealed

A gifted young photographer from Derbyshire has been named the first-ever winner of the CEWE Student Photography Award

Flora Tomlinson-Pilley, a 21-year-old student from Belper, triumphed over more than 750 entrants with her striking image titled The Perfect Moment (shown above).

Captured using a Canon R5 and RF 100-500mm lens, the photograph showcases a dolphin just as its beak is about to breach the water’s surface.

Judges praised the image for its impeccable timing, technical precision and masterful composition, which effectively captured the interplay of light, water tension and motion.

The CEWE Student Photography Award was established to highlight emerging talent and provide students with a platform for industry recognition. As this year’s winner, Flora has been awarded the opportunity to stage a solo exhibition, supported and mentored by CEWE. She will also gain valuable experience working alongside CEWE’s photography team in Oldenburg, Germany.

Additional prizes include a Fujifilm X-T30 II camera with accessories, courtesy of London Camera Exchange, a CEWE PHOTOBOOK and a feature in the CEWE Student Photography Award 2025 Exhibition, further enhancing Flora’s career prospects.
