Nikon newbie: Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S

Posted on Jan 28, 2022

Nikon has announced the Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a new full-frame super-telephoto prime lens with built-in 1.4x teleconverter

Stand-out features include a rapid f/2.8 aperture and exceptional AF performance, making it ideal for sports, wildlife and nature photographers who want to stay one step ahead of the competition.

The first Z lens to utilise Nikon’s pioneering Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor focusing system with optical ABS encoder, the Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S delivers ultra-fast, silent autofocus, and can acquire and track subjects in an instant. It boasts in-lens vibration reduction, giving a 5.5-stop advantage – even when shooting with the teleconverter activated. When paired with the Z 9, users will also be able to access Synchro VR.

Another new feature from Nikon is its Meso Amorphous Coat, Nikkor’s best-performing anti-reflection technology yet, which helps to eliminate ghosting and flare. It also uses Nikon’s ED, Super ED and SR glass elements to limit chromatic aberrations and ensure images are packed full of exquisite detail.

The Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S is lightweight and superbly balanced, making it extremely operable, and its customisable controls save time when it comes to setting up for the perfect shot.

Other handy features include a removable tripod foot, which ensures optimum balance when using on a tripod, and an integrated filter slot makes it easy to apply filters in sub-par lighting situations.

Nikon’s newest Nikkor retails at £13,499. For more information, head to Nikon’s website.
