Zhong Yi Optics releases the Mitakon Creator

Posted on Apr 6, 2023

The Mitakon Creator 28mm f/5.6 lens is modelled after the Leica Summaron M

Zhong Yi Optics has released the Mitakon Creator 28mm f/5.6 lens, a recreation of the Leica Summaron M 28mm f/5.6 at a more affordable price point. The Mitakon Creator – branded as “the eye of documentary” – is targeted at everyday, travel and street photographers as well as photojournalists.

The Mitakon Creator promises detail across the entire image with minimal field curvature. Its manual-only focus is aided by rangefinder coupling, and a small knob on the focus ring to help with precision adjustments.

Weighing 130g and measuring 51mm by 44mm the Creator is compact and lightweight. It features eight elements in seven groups and a minimum focus distance of 35cm.

Mitakon says the Creator encourages photographers to focus on their craft without being bogged down by bulky equipment.

The lens supports Leica M, Fujifilm X and GFX, Lumix L, Canon RF, Nikon Z and Sony FE mounts. It costs $299 (approximately £250) and is available now from Zhong Yi Optics and other authorised resellers.
