Leica introduces SL2-S

Posted on Dec 11, 2020

At its heart, the new Leica SL2-S features a full-frame 24MP BSI-CMOS sensor, functioning alongside a Maestro-III processor and 4GB buffer memory. This tech is housed in the sleek and durably designed all-metal body the brand is renowned for and has been for decades.

Speaking of the brand’s history, the L-Mount SL2-S is compatible with Leica’s M, R and S-System lenses via an adapter, as well as the SL and TL-Systems’ offerings.

For stills shooters, there’s much to love, including image stabilisation. In the case of the SL2-S, this doesn’t only offer better handheld shooting at slower speeds, it also facilitates multi-shot capturing, too. Eight shots can be combined to capture a huge fourfold resolution of 96MP.

The SL2-S is more of a hybrid than we’ve seen from Leica before. There’s a separate recording mode for video, where key spec points include 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording in L-Log gamma, up to 60fps. Another pro touch is an unlimited recording time, curtailed only by the internal or external media.

Other pleasing features include a high sensitivity up to ISO 100,000, strong autofocus performance and a sub-display on the camera’s top plate.

The Leica SL2-S is on sale now, available at £3975. For more information, please visit the Leica website.
